We're in nj. I think this is a roach and my husband thinks its some sort of beetle. Any ideas? Attachments:

I think you are right in that you think it's a roach and your husband thinks its a beetle. How do I know? because you squashed it good thinking it was a roach. Your husband is right btw its a (carabid) ground beetle which are harmless and feed on small invertebrates.

As bichos said, it's a Carabidae. Not harmful in any way for humans and as far as I know they don't spread any disease for humans like some blattoidea do (roachs).

Poor fellow. They are beneficial since they control population of pests.

I definitely panicked when I saw it! I swore it had to be a roach. We're in an apartment complex with units totally surrounding us. So glad I was wrong. Thanks so much.
