So I've been wanting to get into collecting something for a while now but nothing ever struck me enough to motivate me. But this past Christmas my boyfriend got me an already framed Madagascar sunset moth and I loved it. I loved catching bugs when I was a kid. People got me bug boxes and nets for my birthdays lol butterflies were usually a bit too ellusive for me but if I could catch it I did. So this is kind of going back to my roots. After looking into it I decided I'd rather mount and frame them myself, makes it feel more personal than just buying them. I thought about catching them or rearing them, but honestly I don't think I could kill anything like that. I'm planning on collecting mostly butterflies but any other insects that catch my eye will probably be added.
So, do any of you have any suggestions for a.newbie? I'm hoping to start buying Tue materials I need here in the next month and have found a few sites that sell the pins, forceps, and spreading boards. Where do you guys get yours? And I've only found two sites that sell loose dried butterflies rather than ones already framed. I'd link them but I'm on my phone.
Any and all suggestions and advice are welcome

Welcome! If you are in the USA www.bioquip.com is a good place to shop for supplies. They also sell dried specimens under the name www.bioquipbugs.comBelieve it or not, that's a Sunset MOTH you have, not a butterfly. Urania ripheus.

Oops I meant moth, sorry, typing on my phone always makes me mess up a bit, concentrating too hard on making sure autocorrect doesn't mess me up haha guess I mess myself up instead. No yeah, i know it's a moth, I remember being surprised that moths could be that colorful.
I know of bioquip for their supplies, but i didn't know they sell dried insects as well, thank you!

thanks I'll check those out. If any of you have any good tutorials for spreading and mounting (relaxing them seems fairly simple) I would appreciate it. I'm also looking for good frames/cases. This collection will be on display throughout my apartment. Also, I have a question about suppliers out of the country. I'm looking at this one leppidio.com/ out of Malaysia, reading their FAQ about shipping out of the country they basically say that they handle all of the paperwork. Does this seem legitimate to you? An experienced collector recommended them to me but you know you can't trust everything just off hearsay. or should I just avoid buying out of the country?
