Cocytius antaeus medor.
A friend of mine hit one of these while driving across the Tamiami Trail (US41) in Monroe County Florida in his pickup truck. Knocked the windshield wipe blade off. He recovered the blade and found the wing entangled in it. He thought he hit a bird.
While living in Lake Worth, Florida, I reared about 15 C. antaeus from 2nd instar larvae that I found on Pond Apple in the Royal Palm Hammock of Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, Collier County, Florida in 1999. I learned where every Pond Apple tree grew in Palm Beach County and stripped almost every leaf to keep the larva feed.
I have some spectacular specimens. When handling a live specimen, the hind leg tarsus will draw blood if they stick you.
