I see you live in West Central Florida so your opinion about Thatcher means zilch to me, I reserve the right to call names to a women who ruined the lives of my family, my friends and associates without a flicker of emotion or regret, watch my mother battle poverty and cancer at the same time while she rode roughshod over all people she felt were beneath her, in short all people who live north of Watford, if you know where that is, you are not the only reasonably educated hard working lower class person on the forum.

Frankly, I have no idea of how it is in Britain, and even though she was a horrible human being, she did do somethings correctly: she revived the British economy, destroyed the unions and helped spread democracy...you have nothing to complain about if you compare her to much eviler and unscrupulous politicians such as the ex. president of Spain Zapatero.
This man, a dirty communist, destroyed the Spanish economy and has brainwashed many people into believing his laws. EVERYTHING he has done has been destructive to Spain, I have the same attitude towards him as you do to Thatcher.

Quintin , How can you say such things ? You don't understand what Dunc said and feel .... doing "right things" with destruction of human lifes ? Nice ...
Even compare Obama with Thatcher is quite ridiculous, there are the contrary.

I was just saying that, even though Thatcher may have ruined the coal industry, and as Dunc said, is correct about her being evil and destructive to England, you have to give her credit for helping put an end to communism and restructuring the British economy...as for Zapatero, I hope he burns in hell, he has ruined us by stealing our money and giving it to the banks and his friends While Spaniards starve on the streets, him and his socialist friends have taken our money, destroyed the economy, and now we have to give him a pension for the rest of his life WTF.
Obama, as I said, is only the lesser of two evils...Romney would have sunk the economy to the pits, but Obama isn't great either

contrary to popular beleif guys Thatcher revived our economy by taking thriving nationalised industry like coal mining, privatized everything, sold off everything that she could get her hands on to sell to foreign companies, made the rich even more rich, as David Cameron is doing now like the posh little boy he is, as I said before, in reality, not the legacy that the British press/news reporters would have you believe is one of a power mad, greedy tyrant who looked upon the ordinary, hard working man in the street as nothing more than a parsasite, thanks to her we make nothing, import everthing, have no health service to speak of anymore, yes by all means have your opinions like one ill informed idiot on here from 4000 miles away but dont think you KNOW anything about her.

What you say about Obama and Romney is quite true. Sadly it seems more and more voters have fewer choices in the direction of their countries as our leaders tighten their grip on us.

Dunc,
No need call me an idiot for having a differing opinion to yours, I merely stated that she had balls and stood by her ideas...I respect that in a person.
Like her or not, you have to admit she got rid of very powerful unions that were destroying Britain, she turned the British decay around and changed the economy into a banking economy. Sure Britain doesn't produce anything, but they haven't decayed thanks to Thatcher.

Quintin, I wasn't calling YOU an idiot, you have not read what I said properly or misunderstood, I was refering to an uninformed throwaway remark made by someone else in an earler post. Yes you are right she changed Britain into a banking economy, the bankers make £millions despite running our country into the ground and the rest of us have to keep propping them up and paying for it, none of the things that Thatcher brought in have had any real lasting effect, in modern Britain today the rich keep on getting richer and the poor pay for it, but I guess that it is just the same in other countries around the world.
maybe we should have the Thatcher butterfly, it looks beautiful from a distance, all shiny and glistening but on closer inspection is all rather disapointing, hogs all the nectar bearing flowers for itself at the edxpense of all the other butterflies and gets rather more attention than it deserves.

Same in Spain....that bastard Zapatero has f*cked up the economy so much and given our money to his friends and the bankers, and for what??? We are poor and starving on the streets thanks to this piece of ...I hope he burns in hell for all eternity.
In Spain, Franco built up the economy (I don't care what anyone says to this-he helped Spain prosper after the civil war) and now these f*cking socialists are stealing everyone's hard earned money...they totally despise Franco for making Spain great.

I was employed in the coal mining industry for many years before all the mines closed, coal mining is a pretty brutal way to earn a living, you work long hours, just to get down the mine you go into a cage, this is suspended above a 1 mile deep shaft by a rope, you decend at great speed towards the shaft bottom putting your life at risk every day to earn a living, its as hot as hell, although not as hot as where Maggie should be now, its dirty on a scale you could never imagine, smelly, the only thing between you and 1 mile of rock is a steel girder 8 feet high, which can rupture under this intense weight at any time and when they do as you walk underneath them it is one of the most alarming experiences you can have. I went to college for 5 years while working down the mine at the same time to obtain my coal mines official qualification, level 4 education so quite severe, and started doing all this 2 weeks before my 16th birthday. Thatcher called us the enemy within, but these were honest, hard working salt of the earth men, many of whom had fought for their country too ,men who's life and self esteem she totally destroyed, the mines were not closed because they were uneconomical, they were closed because good old Mags had to show our best Adolf Hitler impressionist union leader Arthur Scargill who was boss, the result, hundreds of thousands of decent people caught in the crossfire and suffering greatly. I wont be joining you next week when the good old iron lady is laid to rest in fact I will do a jig of delight and show her all the kindness and courtesy she showed to me and mine all those years ago.

Quintin, Duncan never said you are an idiot. But after reading your comments about Franco, I am afraid you are indeed an idiot... with all due respect of course...
But let's stop speaking politics or religions. We are a small community and must remain united...

How dare you... During the Spanish civil war, the communists (opposing him) massacred clergymen, common people as well. Communism is evil...do you have rocks in your head? or why can you not understand this. Oh, and another thing, as Thanos pointed out, don't you have a young son you should be caring for instead of posting such rubbish.
If it weren't for Franco, Spain would be communist and believe it or not, worse of than we are today. Also, he helped industrialize Spain and gave employment to everyone, you have no idea, so don't even post.

In deference to Wollastoni I will not continue to discuss this. My Welsh coal mining ancestors will stay at rest. I was a miner for several years myself though not coal.
