Calosoma sp. May be Calosoma sycophanta (Linnaeus, 1758), since 1906, it has repeatedly introduced from Europe to the U.S. It is used as a biological control of gypsy moth caterpillars.

Greetings,
The introduced Calosoma sycophanta is established in the northeastern U.S. (I've taken it as far south as West Virginia) but the specimens in your image are a native species - Calosoma scrutator (Fabricius). It's pretty common over most of the eastern half of the U.S. and occurs into the southwest as far as Texas and Arizona, maybe even southern California. Common name is the "fiery searcher".
Cheers! Bandrow
