Yes, those that were offered to you and the pair I saw at Juvisy were very reasonably priced for a rare moth, so there must be a good population somewhere and someone is able to collect them. Peter

I honestly think that in Croatia, where the environment is rather dry and arid, especially in the coastal area, is quite widespread. I will tell you something when I'll go on vacation there ...................... with moth tramps ...................... of course

I will tell you something when I'll go on vacation there ...................... with moth tramps ...................... of course I'm taking a vacation there for 10 days in 2015, travelling along the coast with some Hungarian friends. Very much looking forwards to this!

smallcopper, Oxytripia orbiculosa is a day flying autumn moth, so perhaps your 10 days must be in the autumn. Otherwise you must search for the caterpillars in the Iris roots.

Ah, I should have been more specific! Thank you anyway, vgashtarov. We're passing through the Carpathians in late spring and early summer and exploring a wide range of habitats, though while in Croatia we will be mainly coastal for 10 days. It's not just a trip for leps either, as there is plenty of bird and mammal interest in the region. It was just the mention of spending time in Croatia that inspired me to reply, not O.orbiculosa specificially. I shan't be looking in any iris tubers!

I honestly do not know he had diurnal habits and thought to come out between August and September and not later. October can not go to Croatia, there is the oktober fest in Munich!
