10 or 15 years ago, I have been crooked by David Roda Marco from Barcelona. This guy stole money of many insect collectors during one or two years. Then he totally disappeared. Today on Facebook, I received a request from a "David Roda Marco" from Barcelona to join the Facebook Insect Collectors GroupOf course I refused and banned him, but be very careful, if this guy is back and tries to register on insect groups or forums, then it means he need some money ... and as he is clever and from Spain, there will be many victims.

Excuse me, why being clever and being from Spain means there'll be many victims?

Because he's not the classic stupid crook from Cameroon, he answers well to your questions, he has some knowledge in entomology and people accepts to pay before shipment to Spanish people.

MAJOR SCAMMER ALERT: I noted the appearance in this Facebook group and others, of David Roda Marco from Spain. This fellow is one of the most notorious lepidoptera scammers of all time. Clark on insect net was well acquainted with this fellow. He is devious until he strikes. Well politicized in years past on insect net and other insect venues. He scammed me out of $100.00 in 2005 and afterwards laughed about it and said I couldn't do anything about it. He has been absent from the scene for a number of years as his name was so well known as a scammer. He boasted about scamming people using his same name over and over again.

What's the point of scamming someone for $100? Sounds like risking serious trouble for a dog's dinner - mind you, scammers are worse than dogs.
Adam.

In those years, he must have earned 10000 euros with all the people he scammed...

SCAMMER ALERT UPDATE !! Adam, this was a game to this bastard, he used his same name and still was successful in cheating people over and over from across the world for several years. He has been banned from another Facebook entomology group since earlier today, but he reapplied quickly again under a different persona already: Cine Coleccionismo Segundamano, and also banned from that group again under that fake identity. This asshole will no doubt cheat many unsuspecting newbies out there now that he is among us again. No doubt he will continue to create other fake identities in the coming weeks and months. Don't send anything (specimens or money, he scams for papered material, ova, and money) to Spain without careful scrutiny.

Sadly it's a process we cannot stop completely as most newbies want cheap bugs, and douschebags like David Roda Marco and the cameroonian scammers are ready to exploit that naivety.

Hello
I just want to point out that your sentence would have been more precise if you would have used "anywhere" instead of only "Spain". I mean, I'm Spaniard and I consider myself honest, as well as all the spanish collectors I've met. It's sad that some rotten apples can spoil the rest, but this in fact can occur in any country, not just Spain. The best to avoid troubles as you say is to be careful always, and specially with bad symptoms (Western union only, wrong spelling of the names, strange histories...).
Regards

Hola Amigo,

Borja Gómez , You are correct, "anywhere" instead of only "Spain" would be more appropriate. This fellow from Barcelona will cause much grief not only to the people he scams, but also to the reputation of other honest collectors who are from Barccelona.
