Hello Look at my post from 18th December last year. I was sent a pair of butterflies supposed to have come from that locality. They were not what they were advertised as. cithaeron and xiphares are not that hard to seperate i usually do it by the hind wing patches. xiphares are smaller with greatly reduced white in them,in the males. The females are very different Post a picture of your specimens so we can have a look. If you would like i could post pictures of some of my specimens.

I'll try to get some shots. I haven't uploaded on this new message board yet
But it is like the drawers in the link. They look almost identical. Other xiphares ssp are easier to distinguish

I can't figure out how to upload pics
I added attachments in my previous post that uploaded from my PC and nothing shows up
I try to upload a small 90kb pic and it says the forum has exceeded the attachment limit
Unless I have to upload to another site like Photobucket and then link it here

xiphares from N Kivu is burgessi (not desmondi) the differences in males are in FW wing shape and underside HW pattern. Note that there are some xiphares females that are so close to cithaeron females that is not easy to distinct

C. xiphares desmondi (?) C. cithaeron kennethi anyone can tell me the difference between xyphares and cithaeron? (well I can see small differences, but nothing that can't be attributed to specimen variation)

all the two cithaeron !
On eBay there is a mix between Kenya and N. Kivu as material is mixed by the providers (they work together and sent parcels without localities !) I adverstised some ebayers about the problem but it seems that nobody believed it !

I am posting a pic of xiphares desmondi pair on the left and cithaeron kennethi pair on the right. With these N,Kivu butterflies on ebay you can also maybe include Tanzania and farther west DRC in with Kenya.

Yes, but looking at the picture you can still confuse the males of the 2 species. Sure one is a different blue, but if you look at series it could be individual variation
