There's just not much butterflies coming out of Venezuela. Maybe that's why some butterflies from there are rumored to be extinct

that's what i originally thought is the reason. as there is much dense jungle in Venezuela, there is no reason for such a species as a morpho to become extinct (apart from deforestation) considering morpho's are quite abundant, especially the dazzling males which are the ones that would be collected for collection purposes. is there a reason as why no specimens are coming out of Venezuela? i mean if there are breeding farms in peru etc who are supplying butterflies for the insect trade, then there shouldn't be a reason for them not to be farmed. unless they are protected, then that's understandable.

If this still interests you, there is a Morpho diana for sale on ebay right now (according to the seller, I know very little about Morphos). I had never heard of it before and found this thread while searching it. He says it was collected by Eugene LeMoult, a name I believe I have heard before on this website. Anyway, good luck bidding if you're interested, it starts at $850.

Here is a recent (November, 2012) photo from Morpho rhetenor hightoni Neild, 2008. The subspecies flies on the SW ridge of Maracaibo Lake, in swamps ( M. rhetenor augustinae Le Cerf, 1925, flies also in swamps and mangroves areas but in the Orinoco delta) : To learn more on the matter, see Neild, Butterflies of Venezuela.
