Here is a series of Maculinea arion photographed in the Museum of Luxembourg. This species is a very variable species when it comes to the extent of the black regions.

fantastic pictures Claude, arion is my favourite blue, not just because of its beauty or rarity but also because of its astonishing life cycle, a wonder of the natural world, here is a series of the extinct English race from my collection, although most have flaws I don't care, just glad to have them, the oldest is from 1885.

Hi Claude, lovely photographs. I am writing a thread on the geographical variation in the British races of M. arion using my recent images of Clive Pratt's extensive collection. These British races were often very quite different to the supposed identical reintroduced Swedish race. Post soon. Peter

Nice specimen Dunc, the ones I posted are mainly from France. nomad, yes it is a variable species and some populations may be able to produce phenotypes that others can't for the moment.
