A very fine book ' The Genus Colias Fabricius, 1807, Jan Haugum's annotated catalogue of the Old World Colias by J. Grieshuber, B. Worthy and G. Lamas was published quite recently. This is a essential work for those interested in Pieridae in general or for those Colias enthusiasts. This detailed book covers all the Eurasian, African and Circumpolar Colias. Several large Colias collections in several major museums were examined including the BMNH. Much historical research has gone into the Appendices including a review of Roger Verity's [ 1905-1911] Rhopalocera Palaarctica and the Russian entomologist Grigory Grum-Grshimailo [1860-1936] travels to China. There are 32 colour plates of mainly type specimens and 25 maps. Attachment Deleted

I love the wonderful Colias habitat photograph that adorns the cover of this fine work.

The cover photograph is Mt. Damavand in the Elburz range, Iran. I have a few copies of the book available at £95 plus P&P if anyone's interested. Below is a publicity sheet produced by the publisher. Bob Worthy Attachment Deleted

The plates (by Thomas Frankenbach) in Verhulst's book are excellent, apart from a few misidentifications. The text is largely a compilation of his "Colias data sheets" published in Lambillionea and suffers from a number of nomenclatural and taxonomic errors; it does have some very interesting field observations.
