I found these in a thrift store the other day. Pretty sure they are O. priamus subspecies but with only the underside of the male showing I can't tell which one. It has a large amount of blue so I'm thinking it's not poseiden. The female is smaller than any of my other Ornithoptera females. I suppose it's possible they are not a pair of one species. Maybe someone can tell exactly what they are. In any case I though they looked like nice specimens to get for five bucks. No collecting data though. Attachments:

The male appears like O. priamus poseidon miokensis (Solomon Islands). Would be nice to see the UPS.
regarding the female, could be (?) O. p. poseidon poseidon from PNG.
" The female is smaller than any of my other Ornithoptera females" : may be the caterpillar has been bred by the Weight Watchers ?
Check on the Nagypal webpages.

The female looks like a small O. priamus poseidon. The male underside looks like a O. priamus urvillianus from the Solomons, if the uppers are pure blue then that's what you have bought. O. priamus miokensis from the Duke of York Group is a very rare taxon and you would have to pay a lot of money to buy one of those, if you could find any.

I agree with Peter, it is very unlikely that miokensis would be put in a frame.

i have set many Ornithoptera and can spot the difference and safely say that the male is indeed O. priamus urvillianus

I looked at the undersides of my other urvillianus males and I think that is indeed what it is. I'd forgotten they were that blue on the underside. The female however looks more like my other poseidons than the female urvillianus. It has more white.
Even though it turned out to be one of the more commonly seen species it still seems unusual to find any Ornithoptera in a frame at a thrift store, especially in this condition. I might just put a better frame on them and use them for display.
