Hello. Could somebody tell, what ssp. of Parnassius imperator inhabits Baya-Kara-Ula Mountains of Qinghai? Thanks a lot.

Hi,
At first we must recognize Baya-Kara-Ula mountains. It should be range usually known as Bayan Har Shan or in wets literature Bayankala mountains. It is very large range, but according to Rose/Weiss it should be ssp.kawasakii which occurs in south Qinghai including Bayan Har Shan. Specimen should be darker as this ssp. belong to imperator sub-group instead all commoner Quinghai ssps belong to rather light colored musageta sub-group. Sorry, have not Kocman book - Parnassius of Tibet and adjacent areas which recognize more ssps as Rose/Weiss work.

Thank you, Jan. Yes, they all are noticeably darker, than the different musagetus specimens that I have.
