Pepsis sp from various countries

Hi Joon,

Very nice specimens... are they identified? In the old forum there was a very good thread about Pepsis wasps... unfortunately it is inaccessible now. Below is a Pepsis wasp (originally posted in the old forums) that I collected personally in Costa Rica way back in 1990. It is big with a wingspan of 103mm... it was identified by some very knowledgeable people here on insectnet, however, I failed to write down the i.d.! As I recall, I don't think it is P. heros. This huge wasp created quite a "buzz" behind me as I nearly stepped on it as it tried to become airborne. It was still mid morning, & the heavy grass it was hidden in was soaking wet, making it hard to fly. I dropped my net over it & after a few tense minutes I finally, very carefully, cornered it in my killing jar without it escaping or stinging me... reputedly their sting is one of the most painful known of any insect... luckily I didn't get to verify that!

I have no idea what sp they are. I think I can figure out the name of US pepsis.

I think your specimen from CR is same species as mine.
