Yes, this group is definitely in need of revision, and Dick Vane-Wright did mention the idea of working on these with me a couple of years ago, but we've both been too busy with other things. Storace looked closely at the group in the early 1950s, publishing a series of papers in 1951-52, and a couple more papers in 1962.
Since then Hancock published a paper on the nireus group in 1984 followed by a paper on Afrotropical Papilionidae in 1993 which included further notes on the group. However Hancock's findings differ in some respects to those of other more local treatments, such as that in Kielland's Butterflies of Tanzania (1990). These alternative viewpoints of the classification of the group do need a lot more study, and probably could be clarified by DNA analysis, which I am hopeful may be in the pipeline to be looked at sometime soon.
