Can anyone ID me this species of coleoptera. I thought it may be a scarites sp thanx pete Attachments:

Without seeing the antennae, I cannot be 100% sure but it looks like a small species of Passalidae to me. The other option would be a small lucanid like Figulus or Nigidius. Check the antennae - in passalids the basal segments are beadlike ending in an open club. In the Lucanidae, the basal segment is elongate and the antennae are "elbowed". If you could show the antennae, I could get you the right family, at least.
