I collect winter moths with Light Traps on warm nights (50+ Temperature) from October to March. I collected several of the beetles on 6 December 2013. The low temperature was 57 degrees. I have collected many moths in December, but these are the first beetles. I do not collect Coleoptera, I am just curious. What species are they? Are there beetles that are active on warm winter days/nights?

Greetings,
Your beetles are Scarabaeoidea: Geotrupidae: Geotrupes sp. - most likely G. blackburnii. This species tends to be mostly active from late March into April and May, and then again in the fall from September through October, but these are the latest records of which I've heard. I suspect the beetles could be taken during almost any month when the temps get high enough - they're burrowers so they'd be protected during the cold snaps.
Cheers! Bandrow

I collected several of those on my light sheet early July last year.
