Some years ago I acquired a Beetle book from a dealer which was said to be rarely seen among collections. It contains full page plates which appear to be photo's of actual beetle specimens. The close up picture of a Xixuthrus heros is marvelous! The author of the book is Ewald Reitter. Is this a Rare book nowadays? Would anyone know how many copies were produced? For that matter can anyone tell me anything interesting about the book in general. What would be the approximate worth of such a copy in near mint condition?

Thankyou very much Entomofou and Mygos in replying to my beetle book questions. The book is certainly NOT the rarity that I was led to believe. However, it's still quite a nice book to own. My compliments on your detective work!

I bought the Ewald Reitter "Beetles", English version, from a UK beetle dealer about 15 years ago. I paid £90-00 which was quite alot. I don't regret it though as it is a great book, A1 condition with original dust jacket. Great photos and interesting text.
