As many of you may have seen on the news, the rain here in the south West of England has been relentless with more bad weather on the way. It has been the same in France recently and never seen before -40to50 degree temperature s in the U.S with again more cold weather aproaching the south east. So is this climate change due to us, the human race, or simply weather patterns that occurr from century to century. Would dredging the rivers have stopped the flooding? Are the environment agency to blame, or is it that the government didnt provide the funds needed to carry out the work? Will this be sorted for next year? I dought it...

lots and lots of pictures of politicians in wellington boots falling over themselves for the best PR photo opportunity but as yet lots of talk and no action, would it be possible for a sinkhole to appear and drown them all in one go. They wont spend money unless it affects Westminster as meaningful life does not occur anywhere else.

There is flooding everywhere especially in the Somerset Levels and the Thames Valley. I work outside, but cannot do so in heavy rain and there are bucket falls coming down again today.

Dunc, I do not think any governement should spend much money on that issue as water will always pass where it use to pass ! Modernity has incresed the amplitude of the floods, but when you build houses or factories or whatever in potential flooded area, they will be damaged or destroyed soon or later ... I know what I am talking about as I live in an old watermill and my land is flooded almost every winter/spring ! Here some pictures taken this afternoon in my garden ... A+, Michel

Hi Michel, that looks very deep, my gripe is that the politicians are more bothered about being seen and photographed than they are in doing anything about it.

Yes Dunc, but that is almost true for everything politicians look after ...

I agree with this. Here is Rod Liddle writing today in the Tory British rag, the Sun. "So is it global warming, then - all this water? Or is it just that other depressing and seemingly endless thing winter? The politicians have been buying into the global warming notion - partly, of course because it frees them from blame for having neglected to dredge the rivers. Or for having sanctioned building on flood plains. Even the communities secretary Eric Pickles has blamed global warming, although I can't imagine Eric really believes that. In truth global warming has become a bit of a convenient excuse."

A convenient excuse for taxation and fleecing hard up motorists. Yes when people build and buy houses in certain areas there is always going to be this problem but should their suffering be ignored or should they be helped. I am certain the sight of D Cameron and his moronic sidekicks in their brand new, never worn wellington boots brought great relief amongst the afflicted, stay for 5 minutes, talk to 3 people and then back in the chauffeur driven car with many empty promises, I really do feel for those most affected by this extreme weather, the thing is, unless they move they will have to cope with this year after year.

Hi Michel, that is a lovely old mill that you live in, I see the flood in your meadow has reached your garage, I do hope that the water does not enter your house. I expect your putting all your rare books upstairs.

Hi Peter,
I have been living there for 30 years now, so I have organised the place accordingly ! At the moment it is only approaching my parrots aviaries ... I do not use this garage shown on the picture anymore due to flood, and my cars are well protected : this is one of my other collection. In fact british cars ... The main house is much higher and my book collection is safe. The first big flood we had in 1985 took away a lot of my bottles of wine which were kept in the wrong cave !
A+, Michel
