Does anyone know the ID of this cicindelidae from Zambia? I think it's a member of the Megacephala family but not too sure. cheers pete Attachments:

Based on the Tiger Beetles of Africa, volume 1, it might be a subspecies of Megacephala regalis Basilewdky, 1966, which is found throughout the entire South African region and also further north. There are no keys in this book, so it is the best guess that I can make based on the legs and other features of the body. Jeff Prill

Thanks for the info jeff. After using your ID, i came along Megacephala asperata dodsi which comes from zambia. I think this is the species i was looking for. regards pete

It can't be Megacephala asperata dodsi, that subspecies has four yellow spots on it's elytra. Your specimen doesn't have spots. Their are two spots at the base of the elytra, and two spots at the apical area. So, I'm thinking that I'm still correct, or it's another subspecies of Megacephala asperata. Jeff Prill
