Greetings everyone. I received this specimen with collecting data P glaucus. However, I have seen many specimens of glaucus and this looks quite different. Any help would be appreciated to get a specific definitive ID. Thank You Attachments:

Where is it from, and when was it collected? Or perhaps you meant that there was only a label "P. glaucus" without other data?
An underside photo would also be helpful.
Adam.

It is problem, data are always important. As for me, your specimen is very similar to my Papilio glaucus ssp.garcia / for some authors Papilio alexiares ssp.gracia / from North Mexico. You can see also here butterfliesofamerica.com/t/Papilio_alexiares_a.htmBut also some specimens of Papilio rutulus are similar - underside can really help with separation of these two. Jan

An indication of size would also help, along with the underside photo. Put a measure along the bottom of the specimen when you take the photo, or if it is easier tell us the wingspan.
Adam.

I just compared the specimen in the photograph with thespecimes in my collection. I have a long series of Papilio glaucus from OH, PA, VA, WV, KY, MS, GA, FL, IN & IL. I have specomens that match perfectly. I think the specimen in the photograph well marked.
I also have series from west Texas, and several specimens of Papilio alexiares garcia which are different altogether.
It looks like a papilio glaucus.
The vast majority of my collection is North American material. I do have some material from northern Mexico. However, I was fortunate to be able to collect in the Rio Grande Valley and west Texas. I collected or reared all of my specimens of Papilio glaucus and Papilio alexiares in my collection.
I also compared them to Papilio glaucus maynardi. Again a close match. However, Papilio glaucus maynardi is huge. A locality would have helped.

Hello, I contacted again the dealer where I obtained the specimen and he now indicated that the specimen is glaucus ssp garcia. I greatly appreciate all of the comments on this post. I have learned so much on this board posting questions and just reading some of the posts. Richard
