Hi people, A few years ago I caught these 2 monsters below. I'm sure that Sphigidae lovers would appreciate them. My question to you is: Has anyone ever bred these species because I'm curious about the size of the larvae? Do they get gigantic like the adults? Regards Jonathan www.satyrinae.yolasite.com/

I am sure they must do, generally full grown Lepidoptera larvae are considerably larger than the adult body (excluding wings).
Adam.

Thanks Adam. That's what I guess too. I searched for a photo of the larvae on the internet but my search didn't return anything.
Hope you're doing fine.
Jon.

Hi Jonathan Nice pictures! My Sphingidae of French Guiana page is at www.silkmoths.bizland.com/SphFrenchGuiana.htmYou can find images of larvae of both Amphonyx lucifer and Cocytius antaeus via the links in the Sphingini column. I do not know which search engine you tried, but I have found Google to be excellent when it comes to searching for Lepidoptera. Bill Oehlke

Great specimens. I have both these species in my collection, see drawer pic below, very similar in size to Jonathan's specimens . The Neococytius cluentis female, shown bottom left in the drawer, with its extented tongue to the left, is 186mm across the wings. The Giant Grey Sphinx, Pseudosphinx tetrio, bottom right, is 171mm wingspan. Johnny
