Hi, Like the similar topic on favourite Ornithoptera, this one is for posting your favourite specimens of Papilio subgenus Achillides, the unrivalled and beautiful gloss swallowtails. I thought I would start it off with two pairs, spring and summer generation, of the beautiful Papilio hermeli from Mindoro in the Philipinnes. All specimens courtesy of David Cassat (Indowings on ebay). Hope you like them! Ash Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Here's a special specimen that was recently sent to me for safekeeping. I will donate it to the NHM, London when I next visit the UK. Adam.

i have to agree with dunc on this one, papilio montrouzieri is quite special. the blue of the male is so iridescent compared to other ulysses, its miniture size too. i last saw it when i visited New Caledonia a few years ago. in 2 months im going back to see it again, a sight flying that has always stayed fixed in my memory.

I've seen that specimen somewhere before Adam Manfred - superb set of Papilio buddha! I have never seen a specimen of this butterfly in the flesh. Lovely specimens all round. Keep them coming. Ash

I think this one is Papilio bianor okinawaensis, but I could be wrong.

Some common but giant Achillides from Sulawesi (I caught them mainly around Puncak Palopo, Perdingan Lindu Palolo, Parangloe and Bantimurung) : P. peranthus insulicola and P. blumei (2 ssp.). Among the other butterflies, most of them (not all ! the drawers have to be reorganized) are also from Sulawesi. Poor pictures made with the iPad (sorry !) Second photo : last column on the right : P. perantus peranthus from Bali (Ubud vicinity). See the much smaller size than with P. peranthus insulicola from Sulawesi (= the "Island of giant butterflies", especially for Papilionidae). Perdingan Lindu Palolo : Central Sulawesi Pouncak Palopo, Bantimurung, Parangloe : Southern province of Sulawesi, beginning by the North of the prov., Taman Parangloe being the most in the South.

View AttachmentI think this one is Papilio bianor okinawaensis, but I could be wrong. No it's not Papilio bianor okinawensis which comes from Yaeyama Islands (Ishigaki etc). Probably it is Papilio dehaanii ryukyuensis, as I assume they come from Okinawa Island. They doo look like that subspecies. It is rather confusing that okinawensis does not actually come from the island of Okinawa itself. Adam.

I've seen that specimen somewhere before Adam Yes, you may well have done. David decided he couldn't keep it safely, so he sent it to me. Adam.
