I received an unsolicited e-mail from a Philippine dealer, Noel Mohagan (nminsects@yahoo.com), who wrote:
Dear sir, I am noel mohagan from the philippines. I heard that you collect or study papilionidae group of butterfly, do you collect and study this specie from the philippines? More power. Thank you, Noel.
I wrote back today, after several days, and he immediately replied:
Dear sir, Thank you for your kind email and inquiry for Philippine papilionidae.. I have many collection of this specie, if are now ready for order i am now willing for sending you pricelist. I am living in mindoro island and i am regularly collecting and selling all group of butterfly including lycaenidae, beetles and dayflying moths. Best regards, Noel.
Strangely he didn't say how he knew about me and my interest in Papilionidae, or reply to the question I asked about Francisco Mohagan, who I used to buy from some years ago.
Does anyone know this seller, and can you confirm if he is reliable or not? Any comments would be helpful.
Adam.

Jacques,
Yes, you are right about Graphium codrus noeli: "This butterfly is named after Noel Mohagan in recognition of his contributions to the study of Philippine Lepidoptera."
I am always suspicious if someone sends me an unsolicited e-mail offering to sell specimens. Can you confirm that the e-mail address is correct for the real Noel Mohagan? Recently there have been cases of scammers pretending to be well known dealers, but using a different e-mail address.

Adam, I bought many Pachyrhynchines from Noel, and I have to say that his service was always very good. Prices are usually negotiable.

Yes, but can you confirm the e-mail address is really that of the genuine Noel Mohagan? Jacques contacted me privately saying he had used a totally different e-mail address when buying from him.

Thanks Dunc, you have to be so careful with unsolicited offers nowadays. I cannot abide Facebook myself, I don't like the way they know all about me just from my e-mail address, so I'll pass on that one.

HI Adam - I know his brother - his wife and their families - and I have emailed Noel many times - he is ok and his family. like the Jumalons, and Lumawigs are well known here in the Philippines so is Noel Mohagan. I currently collaborate at CMU and get up there and see Alma and Dave and their daughter Dale. THE insect collectors here - like the rest of the industry is small. Cheers Greg

Indeed, thanks Greg. Of course I know of Noel Mohagan, and used to buy from Francisco Jr. but I am always suspicious of unsolicited e-mails, they are just as likely to be from scammers pretending to be the real well known seller. I asked him where he got my address from but he didn't answer that question, which is always suspicious. However the e-mail address has been confirmed as belonging to the real Noel Mohagan, so it should be genuine.

Oh yes i know Noel Mohagan, i actually not only purchased some papilio from him, but i also helped him set up his paypal account. he is very reliable, and although he had a bit of trouble understanding how to transfer funds from his paypal to his bank account he sent me a parcel before he recieved his money, which that arrived fast and was of great quality. Certainly nothing dodgy about him, good reliable seller.

An FYI - Make note that in 2013 there were two insect sellers on FB using the name Noel Mohagan. I questioned them both about this and received no response, though I did chat with one or both about purchasing some local Eudocima moths which never materialized. I note now there is only one FB page under the name Noel Mohagan.
