Hi people, As most of you know, I am not onto moths. However I do have some soft spots for particular moths, especially a few ones from the family Noctuidae. Hereby I am sharing with you a moth which in my opinion I consider it to be the queen of moths. The first time I saw its picture in the book "Moths of Thailand" I couldn't stop wondering the fun God had in creating the evolutionary process of this moth. I'm sure that when Kollar described this species in 1844 he was as fascinated by its beauty as much as me. This is definitely one of those gems in my collection. For your eyes only, enjoy my Erebus albicinctus Kollar, 1844 specimen which comes from Vietnam. Apparently it is very difficult to catch a perfect specimen. My specimen is close to 95% perfect which to my standards is good enough, however I slightly photoshoped the pictures to make them look close to 100% perfect.

Yup. That's not your typical small brown moth.

I think the concept of God creating evolution should address all aspects of any debate that could be entered into ...

A real beauty, what is the wingspan? From tip to tip, the wingspan is almost 110mm.

What a beautiful wing pattern. I tried to envision what this looked like sitting on a tree truck to get a predator's eye view, so I did a little photo magic. Hope this uploads correctly.

If people are interested in this one, just type "Noctuidae Vietnam" into ebay. Unfortunately, to many of these Vietnam sellers everything is a "Papilionidae Saturniidae Noctuidae RARE," but they occasionally have these. The seller driedinsects has a decent-looking one right now for $9.99

I've never heard of this species but I do have a few other Erebus that are nice. Not blue like this though. Do American dealers ever have them? Us Americans can't buy bugs from overseas unless we pay $100 annual ransom to the government (maybe it's more by this time). Hardly worth it for a bug that costs $9.99.
