Iolana iolas Ochsenheimer, 1816. Colleagues, who is known about this species on the territory of Ukraine. It is never given to the fauna of Ukraine in regional books about butterflies. I found only one historic note for Ukraine - Obraztzov N. S.- Zur Kenntnis der Lepidopteren der Dnjepr-Bugschen Steppe // Труди Фізично-Математичного Відділу. Том XIII. вип. 1. 1929 - Note with reference to Barey - 15.07.1911 Andrusowka. Apparently this current Andrusovka in Dnepropetrovsk region. But many authors considered this reference doubtful. I do not know modern discoveries of this species in Ukraine But in some European guide of the butterflies of Europe, this species is given for the territory of Ukraine. Fauna Europaea www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=441084Tom Tolman, Richard Lewington - Collins Butterfly Guide: The Most Complete Field Guide to the Butterflies of Britain and Europe, 2008

Here is a more accurate map of the distribution in Europe from the Kudrny Atlas. Red dots - findings until 1950, yellow - 1950-1980, green - after 1980. there is some point somewhere on the border with the Odessa region. Although this scale spread in tens of kilometers.

On www.observado.org aren't any observations of Iolana iolas from Ukraine, but the country isn't much visited of course... In the 'Butterflies of Europe & the Mediterranean area' (Vadim V. Tshikolovets) the species isn't reported either in that country, on the other hand it is reported at the border area near Odessa!

Tshikolovets would know if it had been reported from inside Ukraine. Of course it is possible that it could be in the Odessa area, if it occurs on the other side of the border. It depends whether the border runs along any sort of biological barrier for that species or not.
Adam.
