He seems to be the same man as the seller juan_pe on eBay. He has 90.9% positive feedback, but I think he was one of the people whose shipments got caught up in the Peruvian Postal Strike fiasco, so he probably recieved some bad feedback then. Just as a warning to all potential buyers, make sure you read the fine print! Shipping + "Non-CITES export permit" will cost you $50 to ship one item.

I bought from him pre-postal strike (when he didn't need a $35 "non-cites export permit"), and the beetle arrived just fine, despite being shipped in a small container that was placed in a birthday card.

Which is why there is negative feedback. He promises to make it right and then nothing...

About 5-6 years ago, I made a series of bulk purchases from him - based on adds he placed here in the "Classifieds". I fronted him 50% and then waited patiently – he always delivered! Amazing diversity of bugs from the Amazon, all with decent data. Including a few undescribed species of Hesperiidae. All told, I probably ended up getting between 3-400 species of skippers in those lots, which really helped build out my synoptic collection of skippers from the neotropics. Great Hairstreaks and metalmarks as well. I’ve been pondering a new order of a few hundred – just because it was always so exciting to see what he shipped in those unsorted mixes. I even commissioned him to collect at higher altitudes in a different provence. Again, lots of cash up front, but within the year, he delivered. He over delivered. I also recommended him to several other friends around the globe at the time, and they all were very pleased with the material they received. Seriously, it was research-museum quality stuff at the time – great data, bulk unsorted samples, species rich, etc... . I haven’t ordered anything from him since 2010 – and I still have a few hundred bugs that I have yet to spread from that era (I look at the material every now and then and wonder why I haven’t spread the metalmarks yet – they are pure eye-candy). I’m guessing most of his problems stem from people with no patience with Latin American timeframes. Seriously – it takes time to get permits to ship from Peru, and requires travel from Iquitos to Lima – which isn’t exactly an afternoon drive (in fact – I think he has to book a flight). But in hindsight – these have been the most successful purchases I’ve ever made. And I’m pondering another round. Hope this helps, John Photos from those original ads from the Insect Classified that lured me in..., This was just a teaser, the material ended up being much better than the bugs he photograhed!
