does anyone know what species or what this little critter is called. 19mm from zambia many thanx in advance pete or this little fella from zambia, 9mm I have similarly looking specimens from Togo I identified as Phyllognathus burmeisteri. But they are larger (20-25mm) and all but one specimen (minor male?) have triangularly dilated frontal horns. The horn of the minor male I have is not as pointy as in your specimen. See below.

The 9mm guy looks like Copris sp. It resembles C. bootes and C. typhoeus, both present in East Africa I think. You'll need a Scarab expert to know for sure.
