Is anyone familiar with a Dr. Wayne Palmer? He has sent responses to a few of my Lepidoptera wanted classified ads. I am just hoping for some information or references for him and want to avoid any problems like loosing money. The two emails he sent say he has available the species I asked for and that they, quote "come in controlled packs that maintain the incubation standards." I've never heard that term. I searched Google for "Dr. Wayne Palmer" "Lepidoptera", with zero results. I also searched "Dr. Wayne Palmer" "butterflies", with zero results. Any information would be appreciated. Bob

Be very wary of people who respond to 'wanted' ads. 9 times out of 10 they are scammers, especially if they sound too good to be true or they claim to have exactly what you want.
In this case it sounds like the person posing as Dr. Palmer doesn't know what he is talking about. These 'professional' scammers respond to ads for a wide range of things all over the internet, hoping they will get a few naiive people to part with their money.

I also have been contacted by this person with the same "bizarre" words... 3 or 4 hours ago, in answer to a "Want to buy" post. I asked him what species he had (I am looking for Adelpha) and he told me he had 4 sepcies (iphiclus, syma , capucinus and serpa). As you are, I am not convinced at all by this person, so I asked him some questions to know where he was from and what type of butterflies he was looking for exchanges...
Let us see !

Thank you for these responses. I am thinking it is a scam.

He is 100% a scam : in his last mail he said the Adelpha he got are from Greece and Africa.... Difficult to believe for an exclusively neotropical genus !!!!

Have fun with him. Let him know that you will pick up the specimens in person and you will be paying with cash. Let him know what time your flight gets to the airport several hours from his home so he can meet you there.
