There is an ad on this website for a 193mm Titanus. I assume it's a scam. Has anybody dealt with the dealer (Dima Melnokov) before?

What makes you think it is a scam?

That’s pretty sad… I believe, REselling insects and making money, at least partially or mostly, on the buyers’ naivety implies some extent of the latter’ understanding and preparedness for being deceived… Of course, it’s not good to tell lies, but you have to once you are engaged in “commercial entomology” (i.e. PARAENTOMOLOGY), right? So why wonder when a seller lies to you? It’s only natural…
Years ago I used to know a spoiled rotten youngster who was making his living reselling insects. And surely, he used to deceive his “clients” from time to time. A day came and he ended up with a broken arm and concussion of the brain (or whatever it was/is inside his skull). Since that time he has greatly improved his skills, making it far not as obvious and visible and “changing” direct lies for discrete misrepresentations… Still, he has a long way to go, for ignorance, being, besides insatiability and piggishness, one of his most distinctive features, is no friend of a successful SPECULATOR. Knowledge and Experience are what make a real “dealer”...
And CITES is surely the last thing these kinds of “best sellers” have ever cared about, for the only thing that really matters is CASH, isn’t it? And what makes you think it’s something intrinsically “Russian”? I’d rather say, these are all-European Liberal Values…

I corresponded with this person regarding the O. alexandrae pair offered for $1500 and was surprised that "she" actually sent me photos of the pair. A obvious scam..........and it is interesting how he tries to lure you on deals that are too good to be true and attempts to appear as a disinterested and naive widow eager to relinquish her husband's collection. Sheesh!!
"My husband died and I sell his collection.I'm no collector, but I know she consist about 7000 different ex of butterflies, nearly 4000 ex of beetles and 2000 ex of another insects worldwide. For example-complete coll of apollonius of the world, complete coll of carabidae and catocalinae of USSR,complete coll of papilionidae of Asia,S.America and Caribbean(homerus etc)and many more. All is packed in big parcel near 25kg.I can sell all together for 4000$. I better like western union transfer. I don understanding paypal sistem." Cordially,Olga

In euro dollar yen what ever you want... Have PayPal charge you a max for the currency conversion on top of their usual 3.5% fee. What is it to understand? Recently I had an answer to an Ad I posted. The person was from the USA like me and was asking for payment by check or money transfer. I asked for "pay on delivery" option that US postal service does (security for both seller/buyer). The person refused... CONCLUSION: obvious scammer.
