Has anyone had success in restoring the darkening of the orange coloration in Nicrophorus spp (silphidae)carrion beetles? Although acetone baths help in various other beetle restorations, it hasn't worked for me with this group.

Never kill them with chemicals. Ethyl acetate will brake down the bright orange of the living insect into a dull reddish colour. Keep them alive and put them into the freezer. This preserves perfectly the coloration and the specimen keep their attractive natural look even after drying out.
