Hi -- I made it up to Northeastern Wisconsin in late July and caught a small number of Catocala in my bait traps. Would you guys help me confirm these identifications? I had this one as Catocala briseis. Do you guys agree? What would you see to differentiate it if different? I am looking at the white banding on the wings as relatively distinct for briseis? This looks like C. innubens to me. I looked at C. ilia, but the eyespot made me think innubens? What features do you see to ID this? thx Thanks for the help! Eric

I agree that your first one is briseis. I am pretty sure the second one is ilia. All the pictures I have seen of innubens have a lighter patch at the tip of the forewing. Your moth doesn't have that and looks like a lot of the ilias I have caught this summer.
