O.K lets break a two year silence on these interesting insects. Here is the lovely marked Ground Bug Spilostethus pandurus that we found in the mountains of Corsica.

Lovely little sucker. Why is he up on a fern's fronds? should he not be grounded or does his name refer to something else, rather than ground dwelling habits I wonder?

not sure, but as the name suggests he should be a ground hunting bug, but he was up on the fern fronds, we did not place him there, perhaps he likes a climb up now and again for a tasty morsel.
