A wasp of sorts perhaps? Took the liberty of snapping pictures from several angles. Attachments:

Thanks for the reply, Johnny. With further research following on from your suggestion, it seems more likely to be Vespa affinis.
The coloration known for this region appears to support that. Could not have tracked that without your suggestion as a headstart though.
