Hi guys,
I'm wondering what is the story? Collector's secret has many of the same members here, often dual posts, cross posts, etc. There seems to be a 95% overlap.
Comments?

I would comment on this. With some friends, we have created the Insect Collectors' Forum about one year ago. Some of them are on Insectnet, some are not. This forum appears to be a great success and there are now many daily posts and many active members there. Among the members, some are Insectnet members, some are not. In France, there are 2 big insect forums (Insecterra and Insecte.net), in Germany there are 2 big forums, we think there is a place for 2 big forums also in English. And we are right : Insectnet is still very active and don't really suffer from the ICF. In terms of contents and mood, there are some differences between the 2 forums. For example, the Trading Report works very well on Insectnet forum and not on the ICF. The ICF has many historical contents and feedback about insect fairs. The board of the ICF (me, Adam Cotton, nomad and Danny Burk) are in good relation with Clark and we are happy to see 2 growing forums. We are also happy to see Clark posting on the ICF from time to time.

I am afraid, I do not see a great amount of overlap in the posts between the two forums, some do post the same things on both forums, as many on the new forum are also members here. Entomology is a massive subject, so there is plenty of room for two English speaking forums. Both are there to be enjoyed. Our passion should be pleasant, friendly and not least, an interesting hobby.

I would like to add that I was approached to help moderate the ICF a few weeks after it was originally set up as the "Gentlemen Insect Collectors' Forum" because some people were tired of infighting between members here and elsewhere, and wanted to set up a *friendly* forum for discussion of all things entomological. The word 'Gentlemen' was subsequently dropped by request of female members.
We have a deliberate policy of trying to complement Insectnet rather than compete with it, and for the first few months (until after Clark himself joined ICF) refrained from posting links to ICF on Insectnet and continued posting here at the same time as on ICF, hence a significant number of duplicate threads.
I have been a member of Insectnet for very many years, and really appreciate the hard work Clark has put into running the website and forum. The last thing that any of us want to do is compete with Clark or try to take members away from Insectnet. By all means join both forums if you like, but don't leave Insectnet; none of us have.
Of course Insectnet and ICF do look superficially similar because they are both hosted by Proboards. There are actually advantages in that - firstly members only need to log in once to use both forums on their computer, and also there is no need to learn how to use a different interface when posting on either forum.
Adam.

The name of the new forum was changed at the request of the gentler sex . I preferred the original name and would have kept it. So if any here men and women collectors would like to join please do so. I enjoyed the video.

The name of the new forum was changed at the request of the gentler sex but they never post anything. I preferred the original name and would have kept it. So any here would like to make amends, please do so. I enjoyed the video. When the new forum was founded I got a personal request to join it, but I refused back at the time as I was neither a gentle man, nor wanted to be part of a sexist website. When the name changes back I will simply delete my account.

Um... let me point out that the Collector Secret Forum has 6,500 posts and this Forum has over 45,700 posts. Lord knows I've paid my dues.
