Over the yrs., at certain times of the season (Aug.-Sept.) I often encounter considerable numbers (up to a doz./trap) of the beautiful Aeshna darners. I've recorded 3 spp. that have turned up: A. interrupta is most numerous & for some reason almost all of them were the beautiful yellow fm females, A. canadensis males are also regularily observed, A. constricta the Lance-tipped Darner - I have only had a single fresh pr. turn up together on one occasion - that couple are figured below with the uncommon yellow fm female above. It is surprising just how late into the night some Aeshna spp. fly about catching mosquitoes. All spp. were attracted to both BL & MV light traps & sheet setups... most show up from 10:00 pm to midnight, but stragglers may still be observed until about 2:00 pm.
