Is there such a sub-specie, Brazilian monarch; Danaus plexippus erippus??? I don't see it in the "butterflies of America" website, but that is how it is described in my BZ book, "Sierra Do Japi". The specimens from Brazil and Peru definitely are different then the north American Danaus plexippus plexippus. The large spots on the front wings are white instead of light orange; and here is a picture of such specimen. Bedros Attachments:

The Brazilian monarch is considered to be a full species - Danaus erippus
