Could someone help me in identifying this moth. I believe it may be Ludia orinoptena orinoptena. Data: Shaki, Nigeria. May 2015. I have not found a source that lists it as a species that lives in Nigeria. WS: 54mm. Thank you, Tim

Tim, It is either L. orinoptena orinoptena or L. orinoptena styx Nominate orinoptena has been documented from western Cameroon and L. o. styx is described from Ivory Coast. They are very similar. I do not know if anyone knows where the range of one ends and the other begins between the two subspecies. Bill Oehlke

From what can see, you are correct w your ID, but I am not an Arsenura expert. Love to hear from others for confirmation or rejection.

First choice would be beebei, but I cannot rule out ciocolatina or armida, neither of which is supposed to have the small, third subterminal lobe on the forewing. The third lobe is rudimentary but present in your specimen. Ciocolatina is also supposedly a darker species. With all the divisions and new names put forward in the last eight years, it is hard to know which characters apply.
