Interesting, I knew this moth by the old genus name Iontha. Apparently only the males have this superb tuft at the tip of the abdomen.

The abdominal tuft is quite strange, it's hard to imagine how this is used for reproduction!

The model isn't 100% accurate, but most computers aren't powerful enough to render the amount of detail I would like to achieve-especially since I would like to see the models accessible to a broad audience. Still, if you were to see it fluttering around in virtual reality, it would be quite convincing!

We, in the USA, even have one fairly similar to the Platyja.......from AZ, Crinodes biedermani. The wing shape is a bit different, but they have that tuft of "hair" at the tip of the abdomen. The antennae of Platyja are thinner than our Crinodes as well.  |

While insect genitalia is not a personal field of interest, these species are quite intriguing. Thanks for sharing, can't believe there is such an interesting lep so close! Crinodes biedermani is correct BTW  |
