Does hand pairing sphinx moths work? I have a male and female D. inscriptum and was hoping to obtain ova from them. Thanks, Tim

Did you collect the female at a lights? If so, the odds are she is already mated.
I had a female Callosamia angulifera emerge this AM from a cocoon I found in January. I placed her on the screen of my workroom window. I collected 11 very nice looking males wanting to mate with her. I let her mate in a cage on my deck.
Normally, once she mates she Would fly off to lay eggs. I have never reared C. angulifera. I will sleave them on a Tulip tree in my neighbors yard.

Yes it was collected at a light. I put it in a cage with some Virginia creeper. Hopefully I will find eggs tomorrow.
C. angulifera is a nice species. I collected them when I was younger and attempted rearing them. I am not sure why it didn't work. 11 males wow! Good luck raising them.

Success! I obtained ova. I have been having a good time blacklighting. I obtained ova of P. robinae. I got a nice male Dorcus parallelus. Many other beetles as well. Harris's Three Spot moth. 4 E. pulcherrimus (one male three females)
