My sentiments exactly...now there is a problem with an explosion at their nuclear facility.

It's a wealthy country, and it seems to be business as usual with them. I'm more concerned with disasters in third world countries. Japan has recovered from this before, and I'm sure they will recover again. Jeff Prill

I have to disagree Jeff, Japan is a wealthy country but I would not say it was 'business as usual'. Electricity is being rationed, shares are plummeting, the transport and communications systems are in meltdown and half the Eastern seaboard is wiped out, now there is fear of major radiation leakage. Japan is a wealthy country but whether it remains one is open to speculation. I still feel sorry for them and my heart goes out to them. There was a photo in my newspaper today, it showed a Japanese girl sitting on her own amongst the devastation sobbing uncontrollably. One of the saddest pictures I have ever seen and one that will haunt me for a long time. Dave

I also send all my best wishes to those affected.
I watched the footage on the TV news and it was like watching a movie...it just seemed unbelievable. I had a similar reaction to 9/11...it was like watching some Hollywood blockbuster rather than "real" footage of an unfolding disaster.
Dave - did you see the pictures of the children being "scanned" by guys in biohazard suits with Geigar counters? Being a father to a young child myself things like that really get to me now.
My very best wishes and thoughts to all of those in that part of the world and anyone who has relatives and/or loved ones out there.
Simon

How long would it have been in other countries before there was looting and rioting? In this age of "ME" first, it is also amazing to see lines form to get aid instead of people rushing aid givers.

Regardless of wealth many lives have been lost, ruined and disrupted. So my most sencere of condolences to all the people of Japan.
And I am sure many of you thought it what major collections got washed away and all those to die for specimens...

I meant that the people show patience, tolerance, and a whole lot of great character after this disaster. Over here in the states, that wouldn't be the case with everyone. I admire that composure in them. And I've heard that many aide workers over there also admire their composure, as well. So, maybe it is business as usual, because the Japanese people have always been like this, for the most part. Jeff Prill
