Thanks for sharing this footage. There is still so much important work to be done regarding butterfly research as can be seen here. In fact the challenges are more prevalent now than ever before due to threatened ecosystems, and shrinking habitat on a global level. The presence, diversity, and overall health of butterflies are a good indicator of the condition of the habitat they are related to. Wonderful video! Where else can you see videos of a species like Papilio antimachus soaring in the treetops except on Insectnet?! Tom

Ok I hate to point this out, that butterfly did not fly away. At 11:00 the shot zooms in and a fake butterfly is edited in and "flys away" What's the purpose in doing this? Did it take longer for it to fly away so you guys just had to stop filming? I'm just curious, otherwise great video. Thx for sharing

I don't think it is a fake butterfly. Maybe it took really longer to fly away, as expected. As it is a stressing and tiring situation for the butterfly. It has to warm up again also, as the room, where it was prepared "airconditioned". For me it is a beginning milestone in exploring behaviors in entomology.

For me, there is no need to be doubtful. The video is just 15 minutes long but nobody would believe the whole experiment took just 15 minutes!! I don't know Mr. Safian, obviously he is not a professional filmmaker, but I see and believe that he is a professional and a very enthusiastic entomologist. Otherwise he wouldn't effort to bring the "lepidoptera society" in touch with these kind of mysterious macrolepidoptera for FREE!!! Enthusiasts like him deserves respect and support, so that other enthusiasts are motivating to do the same.

O yes I know, I was simply asking a question based on my observation during the video. Just wondering why they did not use real footage of its departure, and if you guys noticed it too. I did not mean any disrespect whatsoever towards Mr. Safian and I know that this work is very crucial to the protection of Papilio antimachus.
