The sound of a Ribeye Steak on the grill at a Waffle House, now that's is the most beautiful sound in the world.
Now that I think about, I will here that sound shortly.

Our local Waffle House is advertising that they'll have white tablecloths and candles out for Valentine's Day! Seems like gilding the lily to me. jh

Rare or not, stamps and coins were just made in a press. Nothing man has to offer can compare with the beauty of nature. We aren't discussing beauty here specifically. It's more about the history of coins, rarity and monetary value.

I like things that have stories attached to them.
For some people, refrigerator magnets do this. Me, I hate them.
Every insect I've caught has a story. I can look at something I caught 40 years ago and remember when, where, and the conditions.
Sadly, most commercial insects have no such story. They have data, but it means little to anyone.
Coins, on the other hand, have a story. One may not know the complete story, but certainly very old coins reflect the society and conditions into which it was made. I have one old coin, IIRC dated ~ 800AD and in researching it a wealth of history flooded into my being.

Interesting thread.
I collect many things, but some not as extensively as bugs. I've always had many interests and find beauty in many things both natural and manmade. I could be looking at Brassolids, Ornithoptera, cone shells, St Gauden coins, Indian miniature paintings, or a picture of Bettie Page. They're all superlatives of beauty.

Bettie Page! Now that was one beautiful woman. Almost as gorgeous as my wife.
My Uncle Fred, one of Cleveland, Ohio's most notorious drunks would say with a smile:
I would crawl on my hands and knees through broken glass, old boards and nails just to smell the exhaust fumes of the laundry truck that carried her panties to the cleaners.
And that my friends is true lust!

She does have that effect on people, no doubt. I discovered her at an estate sale a few years ago and knew nothing about her previously. The owner must have been a collector of things featuring her image. There were literally hundreds of pictures of her. Calenders, lamps, huge posters, book covers and everything in between. Since some of them were paintings, I at first was not entirely sure I was looking at a real person. I really didn't think a real woman could ever be that perfect. A quick check of Google after I got home proved me wrong, and I was amazed to find out there was a sad and disturbing story behind her as well. She was a horrifically abused child who ultimately became an abuser and manipulator herself, and spent years in a mental institution after several attempted murders. But even knowing all that, she's still the most beautiful woman I ever saw. It's not at all surprising that her image is collectable.

I knew she was a Play Boy center fold day back in the 1950's or 60's.
I went to school with a girl I wanted so bad, but she married a football jock right out of high school and I did not see her again until our 50th High School reunion. Her beam was wider than the USS Enterprise. She was also on husband number three or maybe looking for number 4.
Looks do not always make a woman beautiful. I have been married to the same beautiful woman for 51 years. And look what she has put up with! She also likes the Waffle House. What more can I say.

How about 1980's Kathleen Turner? I still hate Mike Douglas to this day just because he was in the movies with her.

Back then, yeah. Not sure I want to know how she looks today. If I remember correctly she contracted some debilitating illness some years ago.

She was one of the very first centerfolds in Playboy. Maybe the very first, I can't just remember now.
But anyway you're very lucky to have found a woman who doesn't mind that you collect bugs. That's been a major problem for me. I never really even bothered being interested in girls until I'd been in college a few years because I knew they couldn't stand the fact that I collected bugs and had other hobbies no one understood. I never saw any girls I thought were attractive anyway. I didn't really care and had no interest but when I finally did I didn't know how to even talk to them, and I still knew they wouldn't like a guy who collected bugs. I was ostracized from a very young age and therefore never developed the social skills necessary to approach women. I wasn't wealthy and was only average in the looks department, so now at age 50 I think it's pretty certain I will die a virgin. I'll have to be content with all my collections and hobbies. They always kept me pretty busy anyway.
The biggest problem is I guess I will have no offspring to leave my bugs to.

Don't give up. If you think finding a woman that will put up with insects is hard try finding one that will put up with insects, snakes, tarantulas and fish tanks everywhere. I found one and I look like rock biter and shrek had a baby so it can be done. I have been told I walk like a neanderthal and am not completely civilized. They are probably right.
