wtop.com/government/2017/03/us-soldiers-train-for-jungle-warfare-at-hawaii-rainforest/slide/1/Their clothing gets wet and the boots don't dry. Hmmm...maybe they should ask some entomologists for help! Wait till they find out about leaches and stinging insects. I've always found it so silly, this trend to waterproof boots. Anybody that has actually hiked the jungle for days knows they can forget about keeping boots dry since the water in streams goes in from the top. Better to have Vietnam-style self-draining, quick-dry boots. I'm waiting for their solution to body armor and helmets. Let's see, add 15 kilos of body armor and try negotiating tree roots; helmets become a steam bath for the already overheated head. What about keeping sweat out of the eyes? Fogging of goggles? Gloves that keep the hands wet causing fungal infections. Americans in the dry Asian theaters have become so up-armored they look like something out of a science fiction novel- I suspect with further experience the uniform will (or should) much more closely resemble that of WWII diggers.
