Does anyone have suggestions for names that could be used for children (boy or girl) that are based on the scientific names of insects?
Bonus points for brevity and if the translation isn't something gross/derogatory.

Vanessa is the name for a girl and scientific name of butterflies in Nymphalidae family but I’m not sure for which was used first. Other than that I don’t know.

Anaea andria. Andria is my youngest child's first name. Named after the elusive Goatweed Leafwing. If she would have been a boy then it was going to be William Robert (Billy Bob)

Those are both very nice.
I was thinking that Delias would be an interesting girls name, and perhaps Carabus for a boy.

Carabus sounds like a roman name to me.

I was thinking more of insect names that were not specifically human names first.

Colias & Sessid for females! Petrius & Calico for males! And, Either & Or for transgenders. Am I bad or what? ?

Those are some good suggestions. I particularly like Colias and Petrius.

When living in Florida our next door neighbors were from the Philippines. The had a daughter who's name was A hole, pronunced Ah-ho-lee. But that is not how the neighbor kid's pronounced it.
Another neighbor who's name was Nathan was a real jerk, but I called him him Ahole too.
I had other names for him, but Clark would never let me post them!

I really liked Vanessa and named my daughter after this. I like Amanita even better, but that's a mushroom. What about Pierella and amalia?
and Chrysina for a golden boy?
Cheers Ben

Plus Cicadas do have nice names:
Carineta, Aleeta, Diemiana, Formotosena, Zammara, Yanga, Tryella, Tibicina, Sadaca, Purana, Nabalua, Munza, Maua, Katoa, Kikihia...
and if it turns out to be a brat, the second and third name should be Idolomantis diabolicum, the Devil's flower.
Cheers Ben
