Nowadays this is not considered to belong to Papilio bianor, it is a subspecies of Papilio dehaanii which was shown to be a separate species to true Papilio bianor both on DNA and from breeding experiments.
I have cross bred Papilio bianor from Laos with Japanese P. dehaanii and found that the hybrids are sterile, confirming previous results of other researchers.

I used to be in touch with a Japanese guy called Yukiya Mitsuta, no idea what happened to him, I got superb ex pupae pairs of the spring and summer forms of hachijonis and in my opinion it is one of the worlds most beautiful swallowtails.
