This is my first post so I have no idea how to start, but I was wondering if amateur collectors from different parts of the country collected specimens and traded them (unpinned and unidentified) to other collectors far away. I collect mostly bees and wasps and I live in Maine. I could gather common specimens from around here and trade them with another collector in, say, Arizona.
Is this sort of thing ever done? Is anyone interested in swapping aculeate Hymenoptera from somewhere outside my region?
Thank you, CRLynch

It's certainly not unusual, I've done it several times with various people in different parts of the world and it's a very good way of getting different species without paying a fortune. You just need to find someone with similar interests who wants to make such a swap. Hopefully you'll get replies to this post from like-minded individuals.
Good luck!

Agreed Bob, its an excellent way to obtain specimens from other parts of the world and the only cost is postage and packing, if anybody wants to trade for British butterflies next summer I can accommodate that.

I would love to do something like this, unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania so there's really no need since your only a couple states away.

Hey there, I've just found out about this forum. I am an Italian wasp collector and I would love to trade with you!

Arfem:
I usually collect aculeates by flowers. Is there a particular group of wasps you are interested in? It is summer now and the collecting is good. -lynch
