Simon: These came from a very old collection(Koenig coll.) Oldest ones I have are from 1878! John

Sorry to say this but it is likely that the specimens are mislabelled. The reason is, quite a few entomologists and collectors looked for apollo in and around Kiev in the beginning of the 20th century but this species has never been found there. Several specimens were collected in 1915 and 1918 near Teteriv but that location is 70 km from Kiev.

Oldest ones I have are from 1878! can you post a photo of those very old specimens? They confirm that insects can be preserved in collections for eternity...
