A few months ago I found this cocoon under a piece of wood. I also found a caterpillar which ended up making an identical cocoon. I think it may belong to the Ctenucha virginica tiger moth. I would just like someone to confirm that for me.

I believe your cocoon is a Spilosoma. Unless you have a photograph of the larva, you must wait till it emerges.
If the larva was tannish yellow, it is Spilosoma virginica.
