I collected this creature in a Bait Trap in my back yard. I think I know what it is. It is a Melanic form! Take a guess. It is a rather common moth. It's wing span is about two (2 in) inches.

The moth in the photograph is a melanic form of Peridroma saucia (10915).
Melanisum is the Greek word for Black Pigment.
This is the first melanic moth I have collected in 15 or more years. I have numerous melanic butterflies, this is only my fourth moth.
When collecting with light traps I see hundreds, if not thousands of moths. It would take a month or more to visually see a thousand butterflies. I mean to physically look at the butterfly to identify it.
How many of you have a melanic moth?
How many of you have a melanic butterfly.?
